Chicken #Win

Chickens now have a new way to be killed that is less cruel than the old way. They used to be grabbed and dangled by their legs (usually breaking bones but no one cared) and they would get paralyzed (but still be conscious) and then they'd go to a blade that was supposed to cut their throat (usually missing or not killing them all the way so they were still conscious) and then be continued to be turned into meat. But now there is a new humane way! Hopefully other meat companies will start using this too. Yay for chickens! Vote no on torture and murder.

Rhesus Monkeys ~ Sexy Science

I heard a professor at University of Arizona was doing research on monkeys so I found his e-mail and asked if I could meet with him to explain why animal testing is necessary. I met with him today, his name is Austin and he looks very young like he could be a year older than me, and he is 1 of 4 or 5 researchers in the WORLD doing research to find a cure for this arthritis. He almost has it too, it is crazy! He was granted 1.2 million dollars to find the cure and he is his own boss. He is testing on two Rhesus monkeys that he has researched about and made careful decisions. He plans to send them to California rehabilitation center when he is done. He treats them very well, they each have their own room (which is much bigger than my dorm room!) and love to eat bananas and have tire swings and a TV. They even know how to change the channels and apparently always end up watching The View even though they are both males. They also love to throw poop and are apparently almost the size of me (5'3) when they stand up! Austin says they are like his children. Except he has to tranquilize them when he gives them medicine because they are very strong and aggressive. He only tranquilizes them every few weeks and has seen improvement in their quality of life. He also said that the monkeys are very smart and almost learned how to escape and knows who everyone is who comes in.

A Bunch of Interesting Facts and Researched Links about Being Vegetarian

Eating meat and buying products from companies who use animal testing is voting yes on murder and torture.

Eggs and milk don't come from small family farms like in children's books anymore.

"Meat wasn’t part of a diet. It just became much more important as they discovered it. Don’t worry vegetarians, there are lots of wonderful foods to get enough calories and protein, in fact it is a very good idea to be a vegetarian" -Dr. P-Z (my anthropology teacher)

Meat is not healthy

http://www.cancerproject.org/survival/cancer_facts/meat.php
-"Large studies in England and Germany showed that vegetarians were about 40 percent less likely to develop cancer compared to meat eaters"

And for world hunger - instead of producing pounds and pounds of grains for one pound of meat... using grazing land for farming...
Its actually undeniable that meat consumption is linked to cancer there have been tons of studies done on hundreds of thousands of people concluding that the chance of developing cancer is reduced at 40-88% (depending on the type of cancer) look it up I swear I’m not just making this up. And no its not all "fancy meat substitutes" if anything meat would be a "fancy veg substitute" because it is so much more costly to produce meat its not available to the poor in developing countries it is only available to rich people in first world countries.

Without the meat production industry deforestation would hardly even be a problem. Cattle grazing land alone is 65-70% of the cause of deforestation -http://rainforests.mongabay.com/0812.htm . green house gasses would be drastically reduced

"It turns out that producing half a pound of hamburger for someone's lunch a patty of meat the size of two decks of cards releases as much greenhouse gas into the atmosphere as driving a 3,000-pound car nearly 10 miles."

Animal Rights

A nonprofit organization dedicated to helping endangered species. Founded by Olivia and Carter, who are only 7 and 9 years old. They started adopting cheetahs in Africa and learned about 1,000 other endangered species and wanted to do something about it. We have no right to kill animals, and these are two amazing kids that are showing that you can do something about it!
Also I am not eating turkey this thanksgiving!!! Save a turkey they aren't protected by the Humane slaughter act!

I am also boycotting McDonald's and KFC known for their animal cruelty.
This pink goop is mechanically seperated chicken used to make chicken nuggets and aptties. It's crawling with bacteria so it's soaked in ammonia which makes it taste awful so then it is flavored with chicken flavored and dyed white so it looks like chicken.

Every year in the US more than 27 billion animals are slaughtered for food.

Stop Cosmetic Testing On Animals

25% of the time human's have a different reaction than the animals that were tested on.
The following products are tested on animals:
Suave, Colgate, Pantene, Johnson & Johnson, Cover Girl, Arm & Hammer, Dial, L’oreal, Softsoap, Playtex, Olay, Bic, Clorox, Vaseline, Ponds, Clairol, and Playtex.

A lab in North Carolina tested a product on 57 cats and the cats had severe reactions which caused them to have seizures and bleed through their mouthes and noses, and tested the same product on them again later that day.
Peta: Today, we're thrilled 2 report that the North Carolina facility is closing surrendering its more than 200 dogs cats!

Sharks Endangered

When sharks are finned their fins are cut off them and the sharks are kicked back into the ocean when they're still alive and drown.
Shark fins give no nutritional value to humans but people continue to kill sharks just for their fins.
100 million sharks are killed each year.
The shark population has gone down 90% in the past 30 years.
